Dear Readers, Parents can help the child to develop strong eyes and healthy vision. The development of the child eyes starts right at conception and continues at the child birth and attains at the child age is six years old. Intelligent care is essential when the child’s eyes are fighting against the visual requirements of challenges today. The different stages in the development of the child eyes and the vision steps are as follows.
Child Birth to Two months
Child eyes commence their movements even before birth. Child is able to move its eyes only one at a time. It looks at you first with one eye then with the other eye. Its focusing ability is limited to only to a few inches. Child can’t see clearly those objects which are 7 to 8 inches away from its eyes.
At this age child eye movements are closely link to its body movement. When child is moving, eyes stop looking and when it looks the body stop moving.
First and Second Week Infant
First week the infant faces some basic survival instincts incorporated into its visual mechanism during this period of time.
Second week child try to listen sound and get attracted towards lights and try to look at them. The child cradle should have transparent sides through which baby can see the view. Te child can’t move its head on its own. Hence, keep the cradle away from the wall as the child can’t receive stimulation to use both the eyes at a time. The child position should be movable so that the light should reach the child from various directions.
Six Week Old Child
When the child is six weeks old, it is aware about different patterns. Hang any playing thing or toy on its cradle, about one foot away from its eyes. Talk with the child from different areas which will help the child to follow a moving object with sight and hearing both. Keep the child away from too cool and too hot things. Keep child’s cute hands and legs clean and away from germs. Handle with care its gentle and beautiful skin.
Let the child spend some of its time in open rooms while the child is learning to control eye movements and trying to recognise sound and objects. Encourage the child to move its heads by speaking from various areas for 10 minutes at a time.
